In this post, I’m showing you how to make a skirt without a pattern. Learning how to sew is so freeing in so many ways. When you make something, you aren’t restricted to only what’s available in stores.
Instead, you can create anything you can think up in your mind. In any colour you want. And, in any fabric you want. With the the exact fit you want.
Everything you make, can be completely and uniquely you.

(I got the fabric for this skirt from MoodFabrics.com )
However, there is still some limitation. Until you learn to sew without a pattern, you’re still restricted to what patterns are available.
Of course, you can always hack patterns.
But, if you can learn to sew without any patterns, you can really do anything you want.
Don’t get me wrong- I’ll also keep using sewing patterns. Not only are they a great resource for learning how garment construction works, but they are also great for when you’re tired and don’t feel like putting the extra brain power into self-drafting.
So, if sewing without a pattern interests you, I recommend starting with something simple.
Which is why I made this gathered skirt tutorial, which, as you likely guessed, does not require a pattern. I actually didn’t even draft anything onto paper.
Of course, you can if you prefer to.
It’s so easy and fast. You can sew this up in an hour! (or less!)
Check it out below.
